This anti-torque cylinder series is a critical load-bearing component of the shield machine cutterhead drive system. Arranged circumferentially around the main bearing, it resists the massive instantaneous reaction torque generated during rock cutting, mixed-face excavation, and boulder impact, and transmits it steadily to the shield body. With an ultra-large bore, ultra-short stroke, and ultra-high pressure heavy-duty construction, combined with special high-pressure sealing and an integrated safety valve package, it ensures rigid, zero-displacement locking of the drive system under continuous alternating torque, severe vibration, and underground slurry conditions, safeguarding precise shield steering and equipment integrity.

Ultra-High-Thrust Heavy-Duty Anti-Torsion Design
The barrel is made from ultra-high yield-ratio quenched & tempered alloy steel forgings or super-heavy-wall tube, and the piston rod is an oversized heavy-wall rod or solid forging with hard chrome plating (HV900–1100). The gland and cap are FEA-optimized, and welds undergo 100% UT/MT with stress relief. The structure withstands long-term alternating torque and eccentric moments from cutterhead cutting, with a fatigue life exceeding 1.2 million torque cycles.
High-Pressure Zero-Leak Sealing System
Given that anti-torque cylinders primarily operate under static load with minor pulse displacement, a “polyurethane + filled PTFE” composite main seal with anti-extrusion backup rings and hydrolysis-resistant O‑rings is employed. Internal leakage is held to ≤0.02 ml/min under continuous 30–35 MPa pressure, completely eliminating cutterhead angular drift due to seal failure.
Integrated Hydraulic Lock for Rigid Holding
Standard dual pilot-operated check valve or counterbalance valve provides play‑free rigid holding in the designated locked position. Even if the main system is depressurized or a hose breaks, the cutterhead drive will not rotate from reaction torque, ensuring equipment and personnel safety.
Precise Cutting Force Transmission
Low‑friction guide rings and special anti‑friction treatment keep breakaway pressure ≤0.4 MPa. The cylinder moves smoothly without stick‑slip under alternating torque, ensuring continuous, uniform torque transmission and reducing shock loads on the gearbox and main bearing.
Full Anti-Corrosion & Slurry Protection
External surfaces are coated with slurry‑resistant epoxy. The piston rod is available with hard chrome, Ni/Cr alloy plating, laser cladding, or ceramic thermal spray. All fasteners are stainless steel. Multiple wipers and a high‑pressure flushing port at the front of the guide bushing prevent muck and rock dust from invading seal surfaces, adapting to the water‑immersed front chamber of the shield.
Group Synchronization & Smart Monitoring
Grouped hydraulic synchronous control valve blocks can be configured for load equalization across cylinders. Linear displacement sensors and pressure sensors can be integrated to monitor real‑time displacement and load distribution of each cylinder, feeding reaction torque balance analysis to the shield’s main control system, with displacement accuracy of ±0.2 mm.
Compact Mounting & Maintenance-Free Pivots
The ultra-short stroke design fits the tight space between the main bearing and the shield body. Standard self‑lubricating composite bushings in the clevises eliminate grease fittings and provide long, low‑wear service life. Mounting dimensions and port orientations are fully customizable to the drive housing of any shield brand.
