This centering cylinder is a key actuator for the manipulator in open-die forging press lines. Installed in the manipulator’s tong carriage centering mechanism, it extends or retracts its piston rod to precisely control the radial position of the tongs, keeping the hot workpiece centered on the anvil to avoid eccentric forging, equipment overload, and workpiece rejection. A double-acting piston design integrates high-capacity bronze guide bushings and a V-pack sealing system, delivering up to 441 kN of centering force while withstanding multi-directional side loads from workpiece reaction forces and manipulator vibration. Built-in displacement sensors and super-nut locking allow closed-loop servo control, making the cylinder ideal for high-precision multi-step open-die and die-forging lines.

Precision Centering with High Side-Load Resistance
Wide-profile bronze guide bushings between the barrel and piston rod, combined with optimized clearance control, prevent rod scoring and uneven wear even under large eccentric loads, ensuring durable and stable centering accuracy.
V-Pack Sealing, Long-Life & Easy Maintenance
A multi-layer V-ring polyurethane/fabric seal assembly with replaceable adjustment shims automatically compensates for wear and compression set, ensuring zero external leakage throughout the cylinder’s life. Seal replacement requires only gland removal, significantly reducing downtime.
Built-in Displacement Sensor, Closed-Loop Centering
An internally integrated magnetostrictive displacement sensor (±0.05 mm repeatability) provides real-time absolute piston position feedback to the press master controller. Combined with a servo-hydraulic valve, it enables closed-loop centering control, greatly improving forging consistency and automation.
Super-Nut Locking for Vibration Resistance
All main and side cylinder fasteners employ mechanical super-nuts that maintain constant preload under the high-frequency pounding of forging hammers, completely eliminating the risk of leakage or misalignment due to bolt loosening.
Flexible Options: Booster Cylinder & Rotary Union
An optional integrated booster cylinder permits a much smaller cylinder bore while maintaining identical output force, reducing system cost. An optional high-pressure rotary union provides leak-free rotational freedom for piping, optimizing equipment layout.
Internal Cushioning & Noise Reduction
Progressive end-of-stroke cushions inside the cylinder automatically decelerate the piston and absorb impact energy, reducing noise and protecting the mechanical structure.
Precision Manufacturing & Maintenance-Free Pivots
Critical components are precision CNC-machined to micron-level form tolerances. All pivot points feature self-lubricating bearings, eliminating the need for grease and ensuring long wear life even at extreme cycling rates.
