This rotation cylinder is one of the key actuators in heavy railway maintenance machines, typically mounted in pairs or groups on the rotary swing arms of the tamping unit or work heads. It hydraulically extends or retracts to drive the tamping frame or work frame to rotate smoothly around its pivot through a defined angle, enabling precise angular positioning of the tines into the ballast on both sides of the rail, as well as obstacle avoidance and return. A medium-stroke double-acting design (340 mm stroke) delivers up to 90 kN of thrust at 18 MPa. Combined with a high-strength alloy steel barrel, a precision hard-chrome plated piston rod, multi-stage combination seals, and bidirectional cushioning, it provides long-term, high-precision, low-leakage, stick-slip-free rotational drive under the severe conditions of high-frequency vibration, heavy dust, and all-weather outdoor operation on the track — a core component for ensuring the quality and efficiency of railway maintenance work.

Powerful Force & Precise Positioning
The barrel is forged from high-yield-ratio quenched and tempered alloy steel, with critical welds UT/MT inspected. The large-diameter thick-walled piston rod is precision hard-chrome plated (HV900–1100), providing extremely rigid support under rotary side-load components and ensuring accurate, drift-free angular positioning.
High Side-Load Resistance & Long-Life Guidance
Wide-profile bronze or composite guide rings embedded in the bore, with precision clearance control, effectively absorb the eccentric lateral forces transmitted during tamping, preventing rod scoring and maintaining long-term smooth operation.
Multi-Stage Seals & Heavy-Duty Dust Protection
A metal scraper ring and multiple heavy-duty wipers at the gland completely block ballast chips, iron dust, and muddy water. The main seal is a hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane and filled PTFE composite, guaranteeing zero external leakage over the entire service life in dusty, wet outdoor environments.
Internal Cushioning for Noise & Shock Reduction
Progressive cushions at both piston ends automatically decelerate and absorb energy at the rotation limits, eliminating rigid mechanical impacts, significantly reducing operating noise, and extending the service life of both the mechanical structure and the cylinder.
Compact Construction & Maintenance-Free Pivots
Optimized mounting dimensions suit the tight rotary swing-arm space on tamping machines. Self-lubricating composite bushings in the clevises eliminate the need for daily greasing and provide exceptionally long service life under high-frequency, heavy-load operation.
Optional Smart Monitoring
A built-in magnetostrictive displacement sensor can be integrated to provide real-time feedback on rotary stroke and angle, enabling precise closed-loop control of rotation and fault warning via the vehicle’s main control system.
