This tipping cylinder is the core actuator of the tapping and slag-off system in electric arc furnaces (EAF). Mounted in pairs between the furnace saddle and the tilting platform, it hydraulically pushes or pulls the entire furnace shell to tilt smoothly around a horizontal axis — tilting forward for tapping, backward for slagging, and performing fine attitude adjustments during melting. Positioned close to the hot furnace shell with intense radiant heat and slag splash, the cylinder is equipped with an external water-cooling jacket and internally fitted with high-temperature- and aging-resistant V-pack seals. An integrated magnetostrictive displacement sensor provides closed-loop position control. Even under continuous high heat, dust, and impact loads, it delivers stable, precise furnace tilting, ensuring tapping safety and operational flexibility.
PAZON
Bore diameter: Φ320 mm (typical; customizable per tilting load and furnace type)
Rod diameter: Φ300 mm
Stroke: per tilting angle and linkage design (typically 1,500–3,000 mm)
Operating pressure: continuous 10–12 MPa, max 14 MPa
Max push force: 989 kN (at 14 MPa, Φ320 mm bore)
Max pull force: approx. 120 kN (at 14 MPa, small annular area for slow return or auxiliary locking)
Breakaway pressure: ≤0.3 MPa
Working speed: 0.02 – 0.15 m/s (smooth tilting to avoid steel surge)
Operating frequency: 1–2 tipping cycles per heat (tapping + slagging)
Internal leakage: ≤0.03 ml/min (at 14 MPa, over seal service life)
Temperature: ambient -25℃ to +120℃; oil temperature maintained at 50–60℃ via water cooling
Suitable for: 30–200 ton AC/DC electric arc furnaces
Efficient Water Cooling Against Extreme High Temperatures
An integral water-cooling jacket surrounds the cylinder barrel, continuously removing radiant heat from near the furnace shell to protect seals and hydraulic fluid, maintaining stable working temperatures and dramatically extending seal life.
High-Temperature Seals & Fluid Compatibility
Seals (FKM, polyurethane, or special composite V-rings) are selected according to the hydraulic medium (mineral oil, water-glycol, phosphate ester, etc.) and fitted with replaceable shims to compensate for heat-aging deformation, maintaining zero external leakage throughout the entire tilt stroke.
Integrated Closed-Loop Displacement Control
A built-in magnetostrictive displacement sensor (resolution ≤0.05 mm) provides real-time piston position (corresponding to furnace tilt angle) to the EAF PLC, enabling precise closed-loop control of tapping and slagging angles to prevent steel overflow or retention.
Heavy-Duty Guidance & Cushioning
Extra-wide bronze guide bushings deliver exceptional anti-lateral load capacity, counteracting the large radial forces from the shifting center of gravity during tilting. Progressive end-of-stroke cushions inside both ends automatically decelerate and absorb impact at the stroke ends, eliminating rigid shocks, reducing noise, and protecting the tilting platform and refractory.
Oversized Piston Rod & High Rigidity
The rod diameter of Φ300 mm, close to the bore size, greatly increases the cylinder’s bending stiffness and load-bearing capacity, ensuring stability and safety when handling the large-inertia furnace body during tilting.
Long-Life Surface Protection
The piston rod is hard-chrome plated or laser-clad with corrosion-resistant alloy; the cylinder bore is plated, providing rust, corrosion, and wear resistance in dusty, humid conditions.
Maintenance-Free Pivots
Self-lubricating composite bushings or high-temperature spherical bearings are standard in the clevises, eliminating daily greasing and withstanding frequent tilting cycles and impacts.
