This frame traverse cylinder is a core actuator of the working unit lateral positioning system on heavy railway maintenance machines such as tamping and ballast cleaning vehicles. Mounted in pairs between the main frame and the tamping/satellite carriage, it hydraulically moves the entire working frame left or right. This enables the tines or cleaning tools to accurately cross rails, cover multi-track spacings, or retract within the loading gauge when passing obstacles. A long-stroke design (up to 700 mm) delivers stable push/pull force at 18 MPa. Combined with a high-strength alloy steel barrel, a precision hard-chrome plated piston rod, multi-stage dust-proof seals, and bidirectional cushioning, it provides long-term, high-precision, stick-slip-free, leak-free reciprocating motion under the severe conditions of high vibration, heavy dust, and all-weather outdoor operation on the track.

Long-Stroke Precision Traversing
The barrel is made from high-yield-ratio quenched and tempered alloy steel. The piston rod is precision hard-chrome plated (HV900–1100), exhibiting excellent bending stiffness even at 700 mm extension to keep the working frame free of vibration and misalignment.
High Side-Load Resistance Guidance
Wide-profile bronze or composite guide rings embedded in the bore effectively absorb radial forces from the eccentric moment of the suspended frame weight, preventing rod scoring.
Heavy-Duty Dust & Weather Sealing
A metal scraper ring and multiple heavy-duty wipers at the gland completely block ballast dust, stone chips, and rainwater. The main seal combines hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane with filled PTFE, ideally suited to outdoor, dusty, wet environments for zero external leakage over the entire service life.
Cushioning for Noise Reduction & Equipment Protection
Progressive cushions at both ends automatically decelerate and absorb energy at the stroke limits, eliminating rigid impacts, significantly reducing operating noise, and extending the life of the frame limit stops and the cylinder.
Compact Mounting & Maintenance-Free
Mounting dimensions suit the limited underframe space of tamping vehicles. Self-lubricating composite bushings in the clevises eliminate daily greasing and provide exceptionally long service life under high-frequency traverse operation.
Optional Position Monitoring
A built-in displacement sensor can be integrated to provide real-time frame traverse position feedback, enabling precise closed-loop control and safety interlock via the main control system.
