This rail support cylinder is a specialized actuator for the rail stabilization system on large railway maintenance machines, typically mounted in pairs at the front of the rail support arms of tamping machines or ballast cleaners. During lifting, lining, or cleaning operations, when the rail and sleepers are raised or shifted laterally, this cylinder extends its side support roller or shoe from the side to press against the rail web or base, providing lateral restraint to prevent the track panel from tipping or swaying, ensuring both operational safety and precise restoration of track geometry. A medium-stroke double-acting design (300 mm stroke) delivers 35 kN of thrust and 26 kN of pull at 18 MPa. Combined with a high-strength alloy steel barrel, a precision hard-chrome plated piston rod, multi-stage dust-proof seals, and bidirectional cushioning, it maintains stable rail support force and reliable, leak-free performance under heavy vibration, flying ballast, and all-weather outdoor operation.

Rod: Φ25 mm
Stroke: 300 mm
Operating pressure: continuous 16 MPa, max 18 MPa
Max push force: 35 kN (at 18 MPa, full-bore side, extending the support)
Max pull force: 26 kN (at 18 MPa, annular side, retracting)
Breakaway pressure: ≤0.25 MPa (low-friction seals, sensitive response)
Piston velocity: <0.5 m/s
Operating frequency: intermittent, 1–2 extension-retraction cycles per lift or cleaning cycle
Internal leakage: ≤0.025 ml/min (at 16 MPa, over seal service life)
Temperature range: -20 ℃ to +80 ℃ (standard); -40 ℃ to +120 ℃ customizable
Suitable for: railway tamping machines, ballast cleaning machines, track lifting-and-lining machines, etc.
Reliable Lateral Support
The barrel is high-yield-ratio quenched and tempered alloy steel; the piston rod is precision hard-chrome plated (HV900–1100), providing stable support against track panel lateral forces and vibration, effectively preventing rail tipping or gauge change.
High Side-Load Resistance & Guidance
Wide-profile bronze or composite guide rings in the bore effectively absorb radial forces under uneven loading, preventing rod scoring.
Multi-Stage Seals & Dust Protection
A metal scraper ring and multiple heavy-duty wipers at the gland block ballast dust, stone chips, and water. The main seal is a hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane/filled-PTFE composite for zero leakage in all-weather service.
Internal Cushioning for Noise Reduction
Progressive cushions at both ends decelerate the cylinder at end positions, eliminating impact noise and protecting the support arm and cylinder.
Compact & Maintenance-Free
Mounting dimensions suit the confined space of the support arm. Self-lubricating composite bushings in the clevises eliminate daily greasing and provide long service life under high-frequency operation.
Optional Status Monitoring
A proximity switch or micro displacement sensor can be integrated to provide real-time support engagement status, enabling a safety interlock via the main control system.
