This split barge cylinder is the core actuator of hydraulic split barges (split-hull hopper barges). Mounted in pairs on either side of the central hinged axis, these cylinders pull or push the two hull halves to open and close, enabling rapid discharge of dredged material and secure closure for transit. The cylinder features an ultra-large bore, a robust tension-rod design, and can sustain tens of thousands of kN of locking force. Even under a full load of mud, sand, and wave impact, it rigidly holds the hull closed, ensuring safe navigation and dumping. With special seawater-resistant coatings, watertight sealing, and built-in cushioning, it operates reliably for decades in the harsh conditions of port channels, coastal reclamation, and inland dredging, without corrosion or leakage.

Ultra-High Tension Heavy-Duty Design
The barrel and piston rod are forged from high-strength, high-toughness quenched and tempered alloy steel, with FEA-optimized stress distribution at the gland, clevis, and barrel end. The piston rod is a large-diameter solid forging protected by hard chrome plating or laser-clad nickel-based alloy. Under thousands of kN of pulling force to keep the hull closed, the cylinder remains rigid, with zero structural deformation or weld cracking, ensuring no water ingress or hull misalignment during loaded voyages.
Long-Term Waterproof Sealing & Corrosion Resistance
The gland front features multiple wipers, a stainless steel scraper ring, and a labyrinth waterproof structure. The main seal is a composite of hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane and filled PTFE, completely blocking ingress of high-pressure fresh water, seawater, mud, and ice. The cylinder exterior is coated with marine-grade heavy-duty epoxy, and the piston rod can be specified with ceramic spray or laser-clad corrosion-resistant alloy, exceeding 6,000 hours of salt spray testing. It withstands alternating immersion in estuarine mud and seawater.
Safe Locking & Cushioning
Standard integrated high-flow hydraulic locks or counterbalance valves instantly lock the cylinder, keeping the hull closed even if the hydraulic pump stops or a hose ruptures, preventing accidental opening during transit. An internal end-of-stroke cushioning mechanism absorbs impact when the hull reaches full closure or full open, protecting the hinge points and the cylinder itself.
Flexible Mounting & Maintenance-Free Pivots
Self-lubricating composite steel-backed bushings or seawater-resistant spherical bearings are standard at both clevis ends, requiring no grease and maintaining low wear under high loads and frequent pivoting. Mounting dimensions, port orientations, and pin diameters are fully customized to the vessel's hinge points for seamless integration with barges of various tonnages.
Optional Intelligent Monitoring
External or integrated linear displacement sensors can be fitted to monitor hull opening in real time, providing remote operation and status display via the bridge control system, enhancing both safety and efficiency during dumping operations.
