This steering cylinder is a key actuator of the chassis steering system in underground drilling jumbos, mounted in pairs at the front/rear axles or articulated steering linkage. It extends and retracts to push the steering knuckles or articulation points, achieving precise wheel deflection or chassis articulation, giving the jumbo excellent maneuverability and mobility in narrow tunnels and drifts. An ultra-high-pressure double-acting design (rated 25 MPa) delivers up to 384 kN of thrust. Combined with a high-strength alloy steel barrel, a precision hard-chrome plated piston rod, multi-stage dust-proof seals, and bidirectional cushioning, it provides stable, precise, leak-free steering response under the severe conditions of heavy loads, high dust, intense vibration, and inclined operation — a key component for safe, efficient travel and accurate positioning of drilling jumbos.

Ultra-High-Pressure Double-Acting Heavy-Duty Design
The barrel is forged from high-yield-ratio quenched and tempered alloy steel, with welds UT/MT inspected and end caps FEA-optimized. The piston rod is a large-diameter thick-walled rod, precision hard-chrome plated (HV900–1100), maintaining exceptional structural integrity under 25 MPa continuous pressure and heavy underground steering loads. Fatigue life exceeds 1 million full-load cycles.
High Side-Load Resistance & Guidance
Embedded wide bronze or composite guide rings with precision clearance control absorb radial forces during articulated steering and offset driving, preventing rod scoring or bending and ensuring long-term smooth motion.
Multi-Stage Seals & Dust Protection
Multiple heavy-duty wipers and a metal scraper ring at the gland effectively block rock dust, cuttings, slurry, and underground moisture. The main seal is a hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane and filled PTFE composite, guaranteeing zero external leakage under high-pressure, high-frequency, and harsh underground conditions.
Internal Cushioning for Noise Reduction
Progressive cushioning devices at both piston ends automatically decelerate and absorb impact energy at steering limits, eliminating rigid impacts, reducing noise, and protecting the steering linkage and the cylinder itself.
Compact Design & Flexible Mounting
The optimized envelope and mounting dimensions fit the jumbo’s compact chassis steering space. Self-lubricating composite bushings at all pivot points eliminate daily greasing and provide long service life under high-frequency steering and harsh underground conditions.
Optional Smart Monitoring
A built-in displacement sensor can be integrated to provide real-time steering angle feedback, supporting assisted autonomous driving and remote monitoring via the jumbo’s electronic control system.
Special bore, rod, and stroke
Built-in displacement sensor for closed-loop steering angle control
Full stainless steel body and piston rod (highly corrosive environments)
Explosion-proof / mining certifications
Special mounting flanges and port configurations
